innogy and Energiekontor sign power purchase agreement for PV plant

Press Release from 2019-05-14

  • Solar park to be built in 2019
  • No use of state subsidies
  • Green electricity" is enough for the equivalent of 1,400 households

Bremen/Dortmund, May 14, 2019. Energiekontor AG and innogy SE have concluded a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a solar park planned by Energiekontor. The plant planned in Absberg in the Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen is to produce around 5 million kWh of electricity per year on an area of approx. 5.5 hectares - equivalent to about eight football pitches. This is sufficient to cover the annual electricity needs of around 1,400 households.
Thorsten Bomm, Head of Customer Commodity Management at innogy SE: "More and more customers are attaching importance to reducing their CO2 footprint and want to switch to electricity from renewable energies in the medium to long term. For innogy, this supply contract is therefore not only a consistent implementation of our brand strategy, but also a further building block for innovative products in our green procurement and sales portfolio".
"It is still a pioneering achievement to realise solar parks on a PPA basis in Germany. With innogy, we have now found the second major partner to go this way with us. Once again it has become apparent that ecology and economy have long since ceased to be opposites. This brings us one step closer to our vision that one day the entire energy requirement will be met 100 percent from renewable energy," says Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor AG, with conviction.
In contrast to the photovoltaic systems, most of which are remunerated under the EEG, the production from the Absberg solar park involves the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources without the need for state subsidies. In this respect, this pioneering PPA between innogy and Energiekontor is one of the first cooperations of its kind in Germany.
